Do you think your dog can't have the professional photos taken, because he can't sit still, can't be off-lead (add any concern you have)?

We hear this all the time:

“My dog could never do that.”

Maybe you think they’re too excitable, nervous around people, reactive on walks, or simply don’t know how to sit still for more than two seconds. All of it is completely fine. Dogs are not designed to sit still for an extended period of time anyway (unless they are greyhounds and will sleep through the majority of their session😊), and I understand that.

Every session is planned around your dog and what makes them feel comfortable. We allow dogs to be themselves.

Professional dog photography isn’t about having the “perfect” dog anyway. It’s about capturing your dog. Their personality, their quirks, and the bond you share.

Over the years, we’ve photographed all kinds of dogs:

  • bouncy puppies who never stop moving,
  • nervous rescues,
  • reactive dogs,
  • senior dogs,
  • deaf and blind dogs,
  • dogs who had absolutely no training at all.

Any concern you may have, we have probably already heard before. And in almost every case, yes, your dog can still have the professional photo session. Our goal is never to force your dog into something they’re uncomfortable with. The session is planned around them, their pace, and their personality. This is exactly why we hold pre-session consultations - to find out as much as we can about your dog and plan the session he'll be happy with.

Here are the most common concerns we hear:

"My dog can't be off-lead"

We photographed many dogs, who were not great off-lead. Your dog doesn't have to be off-lead (or harness-free) to have beautiful photos taken. Their safety and comfort always come first, and the lead and harness can be removed afterwards during editing.

This is exactly what we did for Rocky.

"My dog never stops moving"

If your dog is excitable or always on the move, our cameras are quick, like really quick. If most of your dog phone photos look like the blur, it's not the dog problem; it's an equipment problem. Our cameras allow us to freeze moments beautifully. But also, we only need your dog to stop for a few seconds here and there to create beautiful portraits.

"My dog is not trained at all"

Dogs don’t need to sit perfectly or pose on command to create beautiful images. To be honest, most of them don't. We work with whatever your dog gives us: movements, plays, personality. Some of our favourite photographs happen in between, while they’re exploring, running, sniffing, or simply looking at you.

"My dog is reactive or anxious"

This one can feel big, and it's exactly why working with a specialist rather than a generalist makes a difference. If your dog is nervous or reactive, we’ll give them space, work calmly and quietly, and choose locations that feel safe and relaxed for them. We give them time to get used to us and our cameras. Sometimes the first part of the session is simply letting them sniff around, settle in, and realise this is actually quite fun (especially once treats appear). We use longer lenses, which allow us to stay within a healthy distance, keeping the pressure as low as possible. We will help you choose the location that will work best for your dog. We can work in the quiet park on an early weekday morning or in your own garden or a house. Anywhere where your dog feels safe and relaxed.

"My dog is blind or deaf"

Whether your dog was born with a disability or has lost his vision or hearing with age, you can still have beautiful professional photos. These sessions can be incredibly special. Without the distraction of visual or auditory stimulation, blind and deaf dogs are very often remarkably calm and focused on the person they love most.

Humans rely on their eyes to experience the world. Dogs process the world through their noses, so with patience, understanding and with a handler who understands how their dog communicates, we can create beautiful memories together.

"My dog is too old now"

Sometimes people wish they had booked a session when their dog was younger, more energetic, or able to walk a little further. But there’s no better time than now.

Senior dog sessions are some of the most meaningful sessions we photograph. Everything is planned around your dog’s comfort and mobility. From choosing quiet, accessible locations with flat ground, to keeping sessions shorter and relaxed. There’s no pressure or expectation for them to do anything difficult.

If your dog is happiest lying down, then we photograph them lying down. If they need breaks, we take breaks. We work entirely at their pace. And often, it’s those slower, gentler portraits that become the most emotional and treasured images of all.

There is one thing that helps every dog.

No matter what your dog is like: excitable, nervous, reactive, untrained, or slowing down with age, the biggest thing that helps during a session is simply staying relaxed. Dogs pick up on our emotions so quickly. If you’re worried or apologising for their behaviour, they’ll feel that too. But if you arrive ready to trust the process and just enjoy the experience together, your dog usually settles into that energy as well.

After more than 6 years working with dogs, we can honestly say there’s no such thing as a “bad” dog for a photoshoot. Every dog is different, and part of my job is planning the session around them so they feel comfortable and safe.

And if, for any reason, we can’t create images you truly love, we offer a full money-back guarantee.

So if you’ve been thinking:

“My dog could never do a photoshoot…”

I promise — they absolutely can!

Your dog doesn’t need to be perfect to have beautiful photographs taken.

They just need to be themselves 💛
